It’s no secret that the competition to get into the most prestigious colleges is at its peak, which goes to say that activities on college apps has never been more necessary.
Of course it’s crucial to maintain a high GPA throughout your high school years, as well as for those in community college planning to transfer into a university, nowadays it may not make the cut.
Along with taking relevant and high academic classes, involving oneself with activities outside of school work, shows that you are capable of taking on a great deal of work and will get it done diligently.
Colleges take note of this because this shows them which students will be involved with the school outside of their classes.
Here are a few ideas of activities you can look into if you have yet to find something of interest:
Clubs:
Every high school offers a variety of clubs that range from animal lovers, music fanatics, or those fond of Mozart. Not only does it look great on college apps, but it is a great way to meet people that share your interests.
Community Service:
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with and help out your community.
To name a few…
• volunteering at an animal shelter
• joining our local cadets program
• participating in a food drive
• volunteering at the local hospital
Many colleges pay close attention to students who have done their share of community service and apart from that, helping others is self-rewarding by itself.
Sports:
School can be overwhelming and taking a break to play your favorite sport during school has benefits all around. To point out the obvious, it’s a great way to let loose, stay fit, and get your mind off things.
Not only that, but colleges love to see a student who takes on other responsibilities and maintains good grades.
Internships:
Although there are a few opportunities for high school students (because they certainly do exist), internships are mainly for those older and who have a career path in mind and may already be in college and are planning to transfer schools.
Internships provide students with experience that not only looks good on college apps but also goes as far as helping out when you apply for a job.
Colleges know that this requires you to be professional, responsible, and dependable as an individual. Students who possess these qualities are certainly at a great advantage.
