It's been a long winter and we're more than ready to welcome spring with open arms.


To get you thinking spring, we searched our database for our top spring-themed scholarships.


When we think spring, we think of planting flowers, singing in showers and, of course, rebirth (aka, baby animals). Also, sunshine and lots of eco-efforts because of Earth Day. So, that was the basis for our list.


This list is mainly for your entertainment and springtime inspiration, so you likely won't qualify for all of the scholarships listed below since many are school, location or major-specific. The best way to find scholarships you're eligible for is to check your scholarship matches.


Note: Those with passed deadlines will appear at the bottom of the list, just in case you want to keep an eye out to apply next year.

Singing the shower or in the rain, this water conservation scholarship shouts springtime.

Herb Society of Nashville Scholarship

Available to: College Freshman through College Juniors



Award Amount: $1,500

Fresh garden herbs, anyone? That’s sounds like spring to us!

The Herb Society of Nashville Scholarship is available to current college freshmen, sophomore, and junior students.


You must be a resident of Tennessee and be majoring in a horticultural field to qualify for this award.

LEAF Foundation Scholarship



Deadline: 4/15/15



Available to: College Freshman through College Seniors



Award Amount: Varies

Spring cleaning, landscaping, leaves – you get where we’re going with this one.


The Landscape Educational Advancement Foundation (LEAF) Scholarship is available to students majoring in ornamental horticulture at California community colleges and state universities.

Ball Horticultural Company Scholarship



Deadline: 5/01/15



Available to: College Juniors through College Seniors



Award Amount: Varies

Flowers. Everywhere. Floriculture is probably the official career of springtime, if there is one.


The Ball Horticultural Company Scholarship is available to current college juniors and seniors who intend to pursue a career in commercial floriculture.


You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a citizen of the U.S. or Canada to be eligible for this award.

Brower Youth Award - Earth Island Institute



Deadline: 5/18/15



Available to: Ages 13-22



Award Amount: $3,000

It’s the perfect time to take on an environmental challenge and appreciate the world around you, don’t you agree?


The Brower Youth Award is available to students ages 13 to 22 who have demonstrated outstanding environmental leadership. You must be living in North America and play a major leadership role in an environmental project.


Each winner is awarded $3000 and brought to San Francisco for the award week and a backcountry camping trip.


The Brower Youth Awards not only promote the accomplishments of these young leaders but also invest in their continued success by providing ongoing access to resources, mentors, and opportunities to develop their leadership skills through Earth Island Institute's New Leaders Initiative.


Any type of environmental initiative is eligible, except for science projects and Earth Day fairs or single-day events.

Google Global Science Fair 2015



Deadline: 5/19/15



Available to: Ages 13-18



Award Amount: $50,000

Held each spring, this global science fair is probably the coolest of its kind. What else would you expect from Google?


The Google Global Science Fair 2015 is open to students between the ages of 13 and 18. You, or your team of two or three, must create either a two-minute video or 20-slide presentation giving an overview of your project and embed it on the Summary page of your project submission.


You may submit projects in any one of the following categories: Computer Science & Math, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Behavioral & Social Sciences, Flora & Fauna, Energy & Space, Inventions & Innovation, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Food Science or Electricity & Electronics. A video or presentation is required to enter.

$10,000 Comeback Clothes Scholarship



Deadline: 5/31/15



Available to: Maximum Age 26



Award Amount: $10,000

Spring is often synonymous with recycling (probably because of Earth Day and the 3 R's - reduce, reuse, recycle). Take on this challenge and recycle old or worn clothing to qualify for an amazing scholarship!


The vast majority of fabric can be recycled, yet 85% of textiles made each year ends up in landfills. That’s 11.1 million tons, or the equivalent of over 70 Billion t-shirts.


Sign up for Comeback Clothes to collect old and worn-out clothes in your school and communities and recycle them at your local H&M store to help save precious resources. Not only will you be making the world suck less, participants can earn a chance to win a $10,000 scholarship for school for every 50 pieces collected.

Duck Tape “Stuck at Prom” Contest



Deadline: 6/01/15



Available to: Ages 14-18



Award Amount: $10,000

Obviously, we had to include an award involving the biggest event of the spring season: prom!


The Duck Tape "Stuck at Prom" Contest is open to students age 14 years or older who are attending a high school prom in the spring of 2015. You must be a legal resident of the United States or Canada, including the District of Columbia, but excluding Puerto Rico and the Province of Quebec.


You must enter as a couple (two individuals) and attend a high school prom wearing complete attire and/ or accessories made from duct tape. Each couple must submit a high resolution color photograph of the two of you together in prom attire.


The awards for this contest range from a first place prize of a $10,000, a 2nd place prize of $5,000, a third place prize of $3,000, and $500 to the runners up. The schools that host the proms of winning couples will also receive a cash prize.

Sun Angel Funk Scholarship



Deadline: 6/15/15



Available to: College Juniors through Graduate Students, Year 5



Award Amount: Varies

"Sun Angel Funk." Those three words were enough to make the list.


The Sun Angel Funk Scholarship is available to junior, senior, and graduate students at Arizona State University.

You must have a minimum 3.5 GPA to be eligible for this award.

Apprentice Ecologist Initiative Scholarship



Deadline: 12/31/15



Available to: Maximum Age 21 Years



Award Amount: Varies

With all the cute baby animals born each spring, this scholarship is the perfect motivation to help protect them! (Not that you needed motivation…they are baby animals.)


Provided by the Nicodemus Wilderness Project, the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative Scholarship is available to students between the ages of 13 and 21 who are interested in protecting wildlife and the environment.


To be considered, you must conduct your own environmental stewardship project in 2015, take digital photos of your project in action, and write an essay about your project and what it meant to you.

Garden Club of America Fellowship in Ecological Restoration



Deadline: 12/31/15



Available to: Graduate Students, Year 1 through Year 5



Award Amount: $8,000

The arrival of spring means it’s time to get out the shovel and plant the garden!


The Garden Club of America Fellowship in Ecological Restoration is available to graduate students who are pursuing study and research in ecological restoration. Study should conform to the Society of Ecological Restoration's definition: "The process of assisting the recovery and management of ecological integrity (which) includes a critical range of variability in biodiversity, ecological processes and structures, regional and historical context and sustainable cultural practices."

Burlingame/ Gerrity Horticultural Therapy Scholarship

Available to: College Freshman through College Senior



Award Amount: Varies

This scholarship proves that gardening is not only a therapeutic hobby, but also can be both a great career and a gateway to pay for school!


Provided by the Women’s Natural Farm and Garden Association, the Burlingame/Gerrity Horticultural Therapy Scholarship is available to female students who are pursuing a bachelor's degree in horticultural therapy.

Daisy Chain Scholarship

Available to: College Freshman through College Sophomores



Award Amount: Varies

It’s as if these scholarship providers were looking for a scholarship name that says, “springtime,” “childhood,” and “nostalgic memories” all in one. If so, they nailed it.


The Daisy Chain Scholarship is available to female students at Northwestern Michigan State College.


You must be a resident of Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Antrim, Benzie or Kalkaska County to be eligible for this award.
